RICK’S CAFE OUR STORY BEGINS with the opening og Rick's Cafe by its founder, Richard Hershman, in April 1974. At the time, Negril was a sleepy fishing village with little development. It lacked many modern amenities such as electricity, telephone and hot running water. Our beautiful little cliffside location was originally owned by a local doctor, the son of the first Governor General of independent Jamaica. RICK'S CAFE was the first public bar and resturant of its type on the West End Cliffs, offering an alternative to Negril's majestic seven mile beach. From the beginning , Rick's Cafe boasted an unrivaled view of the sunset from its naturally formed cliffs. Over the years, visitors and locals alike have designated Rick's Cafe as Negril's premier gathering spot and our sunsets have become jamaica tradition. FOR MORE THAN fifty years, Rick's Cafe has maintained as much of its original ambiance as possible, despite some setbacks. In September 1988, Hurricane Gilbert completely destroyed Rick's Cafe. Waves in excess of 25 feet crashed over the cliffs and treetops. After rebuilding, Rick's Cafe came back more spectacular than ever. Sixteen years later, on September 11, 2004, Hurricane Ivan destroyed Ricks. More Destructive than Gilbert, 80foot waves crashed over the cliffs and treetops. When the waves finally passed, Rick's Cafe had been blown across the road in bits and pieces. But even after the tremendous damage from Ivan, Rick's was rebuilt once again, Bigger and Better than before.

DUNN’S RIVER FALLS TOUR

Globally, it is as well-know as reggae music and equally stimulating. A stone's throw from Ocho Rios, one of Jamaica's major resort centres, Dunn's River Falls is unique. At 960ft tall, it is a living and growing phenomenon that continuously renews itself from deposits of travertine rock; the result of calcium carbonate from river, flowing over the falls. The small dome-shaped cataracts found on the falls are usually associated with thermal spring activity found in limestone caves for which the area is know. This, combined with being climbable and its unencumbered flow to the sea, gives Dunn's River Falls the distinction of being the only one of its kind in the Caribbean, if not the world. Dunn's River Falls has an interesting history because it is believed to be the site of the famous battle of "Las Chorreras", fought in 1657 between the Spanish and English for possession of the island. The Spaniards called the area "Las Chorreras" was first owned by Charles Pryce. It later became part of the 276 acre Belmont property, which was acquired by the Government of Jamaica in 1972, to provide for future development of recreational and park facilities. This property was entrusted to the Urban Development Corporation (UDC) to be held on behalf of the people of Jamaica. It is managed by the St. Ann Development Company (SADCo), a regional subsidiary of the UDC.
