Palermo East Coast Bike Experience

The adventure begins in Palermo, where we meet and set off together on an exciting bike tour along the coast — pedaling on asphalt roads and dedicated bike paths that follow the rhythm of the sea. Our first stop is Libero Grassi Park, perched on the area known as the “mammellone.” This place carries deep historical significance, tied to the so-called “Sack of Palermo,” a period that reshaped the city’s urban landscape. Continuing eastward, the route unfolds along the Ficarazzi waterfront, leading us to the charming fishing village of Aspra. Here, we’ll stop to visit the Anchovy and Maritime Arts Museum, where stories of sea life and tradition come to life through fascinating exhibits and local craftsmanship. Next, we’ll ride towards Bagheria, a town celebrated for its splendid 18th-century villas, including the legendary Villa Palagonia, also known as the “Villa of Monsters” for its unique and surreal sculptures. In Bagheria, we’ll enjoy a delicious tasting of the local specialty, Sfincione Bagherese, a true expression of Sicilian flavor and authenticity. The journey continues towards the seaside village of Porticello, passing through its bustling harbor and the quaint district of Santa Nicolicchia. Before heading back, we’ll make a final stop at the Capo Zafferano Lighthouse, a perfect spot to capture the sea’s beauty in unforgettable photos. Finally, we return to Palermo by bike, following the scenic coastal road, with the sea breeze as our companion and the memories of a day rich in history, culture, and seaside charm.

The coast of Palermo, Mondello and Parco della Favorita

Join us for an unforgettable and adventurous bike ride along the stunning coast of Palermo — a journey that unveils a tapestry of picturesque views, vibrant colours, and evocative atmospheres. As we pedal our way through this captivating landscape, we’ll delve into the city’s rich blend of history, art, and nature, before immersing ourselves in the lush Mediterranean beauty of the Favorita Park, surrounded by its enchanting scents and hues. This tour is a celebration of the Sea and History of Palermo. Along the coastal route, we’ll explore the Borgo dell’Arenella, a charming fishing village that flourished in the 19th century around the historic Tonnara Florio (Florio Tuna Fishery), crowned by the striking Torre dei Quattro Pizzi. Today, this area is home to the marinas of Arenella and Acquasanta, where the sea still whispers tales of its past. We’ll then admire the elegant Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, commissioned by the illustrious Florio family, whose legacy defined Palermo’s Belle Époque. The ride continues towards Mondello, a delightful seaside village renowned for its turquoise waters, soft white sands, and exquisite Art Nouveau villas. Our adventure will take us even further, cycling through the Capo Gallo Nature Reserve along a scenic coastal trail, before entering the vast Royal Favorita Park—a green oasis of nearly 400 hectares, created in 1799 by Ferdinand III of Bourbon as his private hunting estate. Within the park, we’ll visit the fascinating Chinese Palace, once the royal residence of the Bourbons. Finally, we’ll return to the heart of Palermo, bringing our tour to a close—our minds enriched and our spirits invigorated by this extraordinary journey through sea breezes, history, and Mediterranean charm.
