Founded in 1956, the Maha Bodhi Society, Bengaluru, is a vibrant center dedicated to the practice and dissemination of Lord Buddha's pragmatic and compassionate teachings. Established by the renowned monk-scholar Venerable Acharya Buddharakkhita, whose life journey took him from service in the Indian Defense to full monastic dedication in 1948, the Society reflects his vision of uniting deep meditation, rigorous scholarship, and selfless service. An internationally respected teacher, author, and translator of classic Buddhist texts—including the celebrated *The Dhammapada: The Buddha’s Path of Wisdom*—Acharya Buddharakkhita also served on the editorial board of the Sixth Buddhist Council in Rangoon and founded institutions in India and abroad. Inspired by his enduring Dhamma guidance, the Maha Bodhi Society, Bengaluru, today operates 22 centers engaged in educational, spiritual, and humanitarian services through meditation programs, publications, and social welfare initiatives such as Mahabodhi Maitri Mandala, serving all people without distinction of religion, caste, color, or race, and warmly inviting everyone to participate in its mission of peace, wisdom, and compassion.
